This crochet striped beanie pattern is worked in the round and can be made any size. You can choose to make it solid-colored or striped and have a brim that folds up or no brim. This is a great project for a beginner or for any crocheter who wants a quick and easy beanie!
Beginner Crochet Project
This type of crochet beanie was one of my very first crochet projects, so I’m really happy to be able to share my take on this beanie! This is a great choice for beginner crocheters because it’s a very simple and repetitive pattern that’s hard to go wrong with!
Make sure to view the tutorial if any part of the written pattern is confusing for you! Also, please leave any questions in the comments if you have any.

Brim or No Brim?
With this beanie, it’s super easy to add a brim and customize its width! You just do a few more rounds, then fold it up. I personally prefer a brim on my beanies because it looks more finished to me!
Keep in mind that folding up a brim will naturally make it slightly tighter. If you’re worried about it being too tight, you can add a round to the top before starting the body!

Notes and Tips
- This pattern is written using US crochet terms
- Italicized notes tell you what to change to adjust the size
- The chain 2 at the beginning of each round does NOT count as a double crochet
- Change colors with the last stitch of the round before the stripe
- Carry the yarn you’re not working with up a round every time you slip stitch
Abbreviations
ch = chain
dc = double crochet
inc = increase (2 double crochets into 1 stitch)
rep = repeat
sl st = slip stitch
st = stitch
Top
Note: You can skip to the body of the beanie after any number of rounds. The fewer rounds before the body, the smaller the beanie. And the more rounds, the larger the beanie.
Foundation: Make a magic ring or make a slipknot, ch4, sl st to 1st ch to form a ring
Round 1: ch2, dc10 into ring, sl st (10)
Round 2: ch2, inc around, sl st (20)
Round 3: ch2, rep[dc, inc] around, switch colors, sl st (30)
Round 4: ch2, rep[dc in next 2 st, inc] around, sl st (40)
Round 5: ch2, rep[dc in next 3 st, inc] around, switch colors, sl st (50)
Round 6: ch2, rep[dc in next 4 st, inc] around, sl st (60)
Note: This makes a small beanie. For a bigger beanie, add more rounds by doing an increase after one more stitch than the round before. For example, Round 7 would be ch2, rep[dc in next 5 st, inc] around, sl st (70) and Round 8 would be ch2, rep[dc in next 6 st, inc] around, sl st (80).
Body
Switch colors at the end of rounds 8, 10, 13, 15, and 18.
Rounds 7-16: ch2, dc around, sl st (60)
Note: Do fewer rounds for a shorter beanie or more rounds for a longer beanie. Try it on as you add rounds. The last round should be just above your eyebrows.
Brim
For a 12.7-cm / 5-inch wide brim, repeat the last round for 4 more rounds. Note: Do fewer rounds for a smaller brim or more rounds for a wider brim.
Fasten off.
