Herringbone Half Double Crochet | Photo & Video Tutorial
The herringbone half double crochet is a variation of the half double crochet. They are very similar, but the herringbone half double crochet is slightly more difficult. But, I will be walking you through every single step on how to do this stitch and I have a video tutorial that uses this stitch. So if you prefer watching the motions instead of still pictures, you might find that it’s helpful for you!
The image below is 66 rows of the herringbone half double crochet stitch. This was eventually turned into the crochet twisted ear warmer headband!

Herringbone Half Double Crochet
To start the herringbone half double crochet stitch, we need to make a foundation chain. Some stitches require a little bit of math in the amount of chains you need to make. Not this stitch! You simply chain the length you want, then add 1 extra chain for the turning chain.
Foundation: Make a slipknot, ch15 (or however long you want)
1. Yarn over.
2. Insert your hook into the second chain from the hook.
3. Yarn over.
4. Pull up a loop. Now you should have 3 total loops on your hook.
5. Pull the first loop through the second loop.
And you should now have 2 loops left on your hook.
6. Yarn over.
7. Pull through both loops on your hook.
And here is your finished herringbone half double crochet!
Now you can move onto the next chain and do another one and another all the way to the end of your chain.
And to start a new row, you just chain 1 and turn! Each row takes me a little less than 1 minute, so before you know it, you’ll have a bunch of rows!
