Materials
- Red medium weight yarn (Red Heart Super Saver in “Burgundy“)
- White medium weight yarn (Red Heart Super Saver in “Aran“)
- Base Color medium weight yarn (Red Heart Super Saver in “Cafe Latte“)
- 5mm Clover Amour crochet hook
- Scissors
- Yarn needle
- Tension ring (optional)
- Yarn bowl (optional)

9 centimeters wide x 9 centimeters long (3.54 x 3.54 inches)
Notes and Tips
- This pattern is written using US crochet terms
- The chain 2 at the beginning of each row/round does NOT count as a double crochet
- Carry the loose ends in your stitches to avoid having to weave them in later on
Abbreviations
blo = back loop only
ch = chain
ch2-sp = chain-2-space (space created by a chain 2)
dc = double crochet
hdc = half double crochet
inc = increase (2 double crochets in the same stitch)
rep = repeat
sc = single crochet
sl st = slip stitch
sp = space
st = stitch
Mushroom Granny Square
Foundation: With red yarn, make a magic ring or make a slipknot, ch4, sl st to 1st ch to form a ring
Round 1: ch2, dc6 into ring, switch to brown, dc2 into ring, switch to white, dc2 into ring, switch to brown, dc2 into ring, switch to red, sl st (12)
For Round 2, we’ll increase in each stitch using the same color as the stitch we’re working into.
Round 2: ch2, inc in next 6 st, switch to brown, inc in next 2 st, switch to white, inc in next 2 st, switch to brown, inc in next 2 st, sl st (24)
Cut the red and white yarn, leaving a tail to weave in.
For Round 3, we’ll work in the back loop only in the red and white stitches.
Round 3 (partially worked in blo): ch1, sl st, sc, hdc, *[dc, ch2, dc] in next st, hdc, sc,** sl st, sc, hdc, rep from * around, stop at ** on last rep, sl st (7 st on each side of square, ch2 in each corner)
Round 4: ch2, dc in next 4 st, *[dc2, ch2, dc2] in ch2-sp,** dc in next 7 st, rep from * around, stop at ** on last rep, dc in last 3 st, sl st (11 st on each side of square, ch2 in each corner)
Fasten off.
Spots
- Cut a 14 inch / 35 centimeter long strand of white yarn
- Using a yarn needle, pull the yarn through anywhere on the mushroom cap, leaving a tail in the back
- Go back through the mushroom about half an inch away
- Go through the mushroom to where you want your next spot
- Repeat Steps 3-4 around the mushroom until you reach back where you started
- Tie a double knot with the loose ends
