Pattern Information

Materials

• 20 grams/31 yards of medium weight yarn (Big Twist Favorite Cotton in “Green Olive”)
• 5mm Clover Amour crochet hook
• Scissors
• Yarn needle
• (optional) Tape measure

Crochet Abbreviations

blo = back loop only

ch = chain

sc = single crochet

sl st = slip stitch

st = stitch

Gauge

24 rows of 15 thermal single crochets makes a 10 x 10 centimeter (4″ x 4″) square

Dimensions

*includes instructions to adjust sizing

Coaster: 11.5 centimeters wide x 11.5 centimeters long (4.53 x 4.53 inches)

Potholder: 20 centimeters wide x 20 centimeters long (7.87 x 7.87 inches)

Notes and Tips

• This pattern is written using US crochet terms
• The number in (parentheses) at the end of each row is the stitch count after finishing that row
• Italicized notes tell you what to change to adjust the size
• The chain 1 at the beginning of each row does NOT count as a single crochet

Thermal Crochet Coaster Pattern

Foundation: Make a slipknot, ch17

Note: Do fewer chains for a smaller coaster/potholder or more chains for a larger coaster/potholder. For the potholder, I did 30 chains.

Row 1: sc in 2nd ch from hook and each ch across (16)

Row 2: ch1, turn, sc in blo and ch for each st across (16)

For each stitch:

1. Insert your hook into the back loop
2. Insert your hook into the chain directly below it
3. Complete a single crochet (pull up a loop, yarn over, pull through all loops)

Rows 3-25: ch1, turn, sc in blo and front loop of previous row for each st across (16)

For each stitch:

1. Insert your hook into the back loop
2. Insert your hook into the front loop we skipped in the previous row
3. Complete a single crochet (pull up a loop, yarn over, pull through all loops)

Note: Do fewer rows for a smaller coaster/potholder or more rows for a larger coaster./potholder. For the potholder, I did 47 rows.

Row 26: ch1, turn, sl st in st and front loop of previous row for each st across (16)

For each stitch:

1. Insert your hook under both loops
2. Insert your hook into the front loop we skipped in the previous row
3. Complete a slip stitch (pull up a loop, pull first loop through second loop)

(Optional) Hanging Loop

ch12, sl st to last st of last row
