Materials

140 grams of medium weight yarn (Brava in “Wine”)
6mm Clover Amour crochet hook
Scissors
Yarn needle

Crochet Abbreviations

blo = back loop only

ch = chain

hdc = half double crochet

Gauge

10 rows of 16 half double crochets makes a 10 x 10 centimeter (4″ x 4″) square

Dimensions

Overall: 12 centimeters wide x 166 centimeters long (4.7 x 65.4 inches)

Notes and Tips

This pattern is written using US crochet terms
The number in (parentheses) at the end of each row is the stitch count after finishing that row
Italicized notes tell you what to change to adjust the size
The chain 1 at the beginning of each row does NOT count as a half double crochet

Crochet Ribbed Scarf Pattern

Foundation: Make a slipknot, ch251

Note: Do fewer chains for a shorter scarf, or more chains for a longer scarf.

Row 1: hdc in 2nd ch from hook and each ch across (250)

Rows 2-12: ch1, turn, hdc across in the blo (250)

Tip: Don’t miss the last stitch of each row, or the edge of your scarf will be slanted!

Note: Do fewer rows for a skinnier scarf, or more rows for a wider scarf.

Fasten off and weave in ends.

If you don’t want tassels, your crochet scarf is finished!

Tassels

Cut a 15 centimeter strand of yarn.

Note: For a different tassel length, cut your yarn strand a little over double the length you want your tassels to be. Remember that you can always trim your tassels shorter, but you can’t make them longer!

You can customize the thickness of the tassels by the number of strands you use at a time. First, let’s do a tassel with just one strand of yarn.

Insert your hook along the edge of the scarf where you want the tassel to be
Loop the middle of the yarn strand onto your hook
Pull through
Grab the tails with your hook
Pull through the loop on your hook
Tighten the tassel

If you’d like a thicker tassel, use more than one yarn strand at a time. In the image below, I used 3 yarn strands, which results in 6 “tails” instead of 2.
