Notes and Tips
- This pattern is written using US crochet terms
- The number in (parentheses) at the end of each row is the stitch count after finishing that row
- Italicized notes tell you what to change to adjust the size
- The chain 2 at the beginning of each round does NOT count as a double crochet
- The slip stitch at the end of each round in the base goes into the first stitch of that round
- The first stitch of every new round in the base goes into the same stitch we slip stitched to in the previous round
How to Crochet a Flower (Popcorn Stitch)
- Do 5 double crochets into the same space.
- Remove your hook from the loop (you can hold it on your finger to keep it from unraveling).
- Insert your hook into the first double crochet made.
- Place the loop back on your hook and tighten it.
- Pull through the stitch.
Below are some photos to guide you. Or you can view the video tutorial!

Crochet Flower Bouquet Coaster Pattern
Base
Foundation: With the base color yarn (white), make a magic ring or make a slipknot, ch4, sl st to 1st ch to form a ring
Round 1: ch2, dc12 into ring, sl st (12)

Round 2: ch2, inc around, sl st (24)

Round 3: ch2, rep[dc, inc] around, sl st (36)

Note: If the 3 rounds fits your cup or mug, you can skip Round 4.
Round 4: ch2, rep[dc in next 2 st, inc] around, sl st (48)
Fasten off.

Leaves
Attach the leaf color yarn (green) to any stitch in Round 4.
Round 5: ch5, dc in same st, *sk2, [dc, ch2, dc] in next st, rep from * around, sl st to the third ch from the bottom (16 ch2-sp)
Fasten off.

Flowers
Attach the flower color yarn (pink) to any space we skipped 2 stitches in Round 5. For Round 6, we will work into each space we skipped 2 stitches and each ch2-sp between the double crochets.
Round 6: ch1, sc in same sp, rep[ch2, PC in next sp, ch2,* sc in next sp] around, ending last rep at *, sl st (16 sc, 16 PC)

Fasten off, weave in your loose ends, and your crochet flower coaster is finished!

Turning the Coaster into a Bouquet
To make it into a bouquet, cut a 30cm (12″) string in the flower color yarn. Fold the coaster in half with the right side out and roll the coaster around the magic ring.

Tie a knot and bow with the string to hold the bouquet in place.

Crochet Flower Basket Coaster Set
For a practical holder for all your flower coasters, you can make a flower basket.
Foundation: With the basket color yarn (brown), make a magic ring or make a slipknot, ch4, sl st to 1st ch to form a ring
Round 1: ch2, dc12 into ring, sl st (12)
Round 2: ch2, inc around, sl st (24)
Round 3: ch2, rep[dc, inc] around, sl st (36)
Note: For a larger pot, repeat Round 4 in the Base before continuing with the next rounds.
Rounds 4-6: ch2, dc around, sl st (36)
Fasten off, weave in your loose ends, and your crochet flower basket is finished!

This size pot will fit 2-3 coasters. Place them in the pot on top of each other, with the flowers coming out of the basket.

I love this coaster. I am at the flower row, but I noticed that my circle is curving inwards. Now doing petals, it seems to to be doing it more. What am I doing wrong? Please help.
Hi Irene, when you were making the circle in the first steps, if you do too many increases in each stitch it can cause the circle to curve inwards. During row 3, the pattern is 1 double crochet and then an increase (2 dc in one stitch), and row 4 is one double crochet for each 2 stitches, and then an increase of 2 double crochet in one stitch, and this is the pattern for the entire row. This can help the circle lay flat and not curve. I hope this is helpful. 🙂
These are so cute, and I can’t wait to make them! Do you happen to have an estimate on how much of each color yarn we’d need per coaster?
this is really nice, a dinner table decoration and coaster all in one! I wish the pot would be bigger though.
why is no one commenting from 2026????
this is a great pattern and now you have 2026 in the comments.
This is nice but it ´ s kinda confusing if you ´ re not an experienced crocheter already.

In the rest of the pattern will it be double crochet ?
yes the rest of the pattern is double crochet, but the leaves and flowers include some chains and single crochets, Just watch the video tutorial, it’is much easier.

no it’s just one double crochet in each stitch
This is so cute. Your tutorial was great! Your descriptions and pinpointing of the stitches made this very easy to understand and follow.
